I have a new mindfulness teacher and his name is Apollo.
So far, I’ve been a pretty bad student. In fact, I’ve regressed these first few days.
I can’t focus or stay on task. My thinking process has become muddled. All I want to do is play with my teacher. Right now he’s konked out on the floor next to my feet, snoozing after the morning’s excitement (eating, discovering the garden, digging in the mulch pile, chewing on dog toys and kitchen chair legs).
Apollo must have known that he had to be perfect, since I am still so connected to my departed soul mate Spirit. I asked Spirit to help us with this puppy search, talking out loud to him like a crazy person.
It may just be coincidence, but the day after I asked Spirit to help us find a puppy, my son found a breeder with a litter due during the timeframe we were hoping for. I had to ask for Spirit’s help again in reaching agreement on a name. Our name negotiations coincided with the Iran nuclear deal talks, and felt almost as challenging.
We finally settled on Apollo, a strong name to appease my sons, but with a meaning that resonated with Mom. Sources differ slightly, but Apollo is the Greek and Roman god of wisdom, nature and art (or music, healing, light, prophecy and enlightenment). Another definition included “god of the Sun”.
So because it’s been a low productivity week (and as an exercise in accepting the reality of “what is”), I’ll keep today’s post short and give you what you really want….PUPPY PICTURES!
Gotta run now to let Apollo out!

I’m soooooo in love with Apollo! He looks just like my old dog Murphy did when he was a pup. It’s been a good ten years since he left us….but now after seeing your photos…I think it’s almost time for another dog. Love the photos.

Now is clearly the time, Bill! I need a like-minded puppy parent with whom to compare notes! Nothing better than a dog to reinforce our spiritual and mindfulness practice (I know I’m preaching to the choir). :-)

Loved the puppy post! I have a 3 year old from Liberty Run and I remember exactly what you are going thru right now. And it just keeps getting better!
I truly believe dogs can heal things within us that we didn’t even know were broken.

I couldn’t agree more with you Ruth! It’s been 14 years since we’ve had a baby puppy in the house. Watching Apollo’s utter delight in life’s tiniest details makes my heart sing. Nice to meet another Liberty Run family. Thanks for taking the time to comment! :-) Martha

Such a joy watching Apollo’s family meeting and bonding–last one tonight when Cody came home.It is very obvious that something special is going on here–just as it did with dear Spirit. Puppy love can (and will be) be everlasting. Love you all..
